“A graduate research assistantship is available for a motivated M.S. student to join the Jo Lab starting Spring 2026. The student will work on a project modeling how spatial relationships among trees influence forest growth, regeneration, and understory plant communities in Indiana’s mixed hardwood forests. The research aims to inform forest management strategies that promote valuable hardwood species and address challenges from competing vegetation. The student will gain experience in spatial data analysis, ecological modeling, and applied forestry research, with opportunities for collaboration with university researchers, state agencies, and forest managers.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in forestry, ecology, environmental science, or related field
- Strong interest in forest ecology and ecological data analysis
- Experience with statistical software (R, Python) preferred but not required
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
