The non-profit organization, Conservation Opportunity (CO), together with the Department of Natural Resources (DNER) and participants, collected a total of 477.6 pounds of garbage (216.64kg) in Arecibo. The activity was carried out specifically in the Zanja Fr\u00eda area, adjacent to the Ca\u00f1o Tiburones Natural Reserve.<\/p>\n\n\n

After the culmination of the event, CO expressed its gratitude to DNER vigilantes Mar\u00eda Irizarry Gonzales, Victor Ra\u00edces, community leader Lilliam Diaz, the Hon. Mayor Tito Ram\u00edrez of the Municipality of Arecibo and the Puerto Rican community for joining the installation of the sixth sign of the \u201cDisfruta con Conciencia\u201d campaign that seeks to maintain clean natural areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, the Interim Management Officer of the Ca\u00f1o Tiburones Wildlife Refuge, Mar\u00eda Irizarry Gonz\u00e1lez, expressed her gratitude and congratulations for the results of the event, highlighting the importance of the Zanja Fr\u00eda spring. Which, according to EncyclopediaPR<\/a>, is a water ecosystem formed by cracks and fractures in the subway channels through the karst region, which provides constant water for the flow of nearby rivers and wetlands, as well as a living space for local fauna and flora.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cWe thank the Conservation Opportunity work team for organizing the event and the participants who joined us in the cleanup to help maintain, conserve and protect such an important resource,\u201d he stated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, Lilliam Diaz, a community leader who invited CO to make the activity happen in Ca\u00f1o Tiburones, shared some comments about the positive attitude caused by the impulsive actions of non-profit organizations and the general public to protect the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor us this is a very valuable experience in relation to the fact that we remain constant in continuing to recover our reserve. Perhaps, with these events that we do, even if it is something, people can take something small, but significant, to begin to create awareness and change people's behavior and minds to symbolize that we are in a natural reserve, something that is valuable and privileged to have. Just as we have to take care of it and protect it and continue with our effort to regain awareness,\u201d he commented.<\/p>\n\n\n
