DescriptionThis M.S. graduate assistantship at Colorado State University focuses on understanding mesocarnivore distribution and habitat associations across the state of Colorado. Priority species include gray fox and ring-tailed cats, with secondary focus on bobcat, American hog-nosed skunk, and western spotted skunk. The student will develop a project proposal during the first year, including a sampling framework to guide field surveys they will lead. Fieldwork will primarily consist of deploying camera traps across two summer field seasons. Results will directly inform conservation and management efforts by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
Requirements:
  • B.S. in wildlife ecology, biology, natural resource management, or a related field
  • At least 1 year of wildlife-related field experience
  • Ability to navigate safely in rugged environments (hiking and driving)
  • Strong work ethic
  • Desire to learn to plan, execute, and lead a field study from conception to publication
  • Interest in developing coding and statistical modeling skills
  • Desire to collaborate with state wildlife management agencies
