AquaFest is a key initiative within the NOAA Marine Debris Program's 2023-2028 Strategic Plan to Reduce Aquatic Debris in Puerto Rico. This new annual festival will serve as a platform to share the efforts being made on the island, featuring informational booths, workshops and interactive activities. The event will bring together local organizations, community members and stakeholders to raise awareness about the impact of aquatic debris and promote sustainable practices to protect our marine environments.

Objectives:

Increase Awareness of Aquatic Pollution:

Educate participants about the sources, impacts and solutions related to marine and aquatic debris through workshops, exhibits and interactive activities.

Encourage Community Participation in Environmental Conservation:

Recruit and involve community members in hands-on activities, such as beach cleanups, recycling workshops and art projects using marine debris.

Promote Sustainable Practices:

Demonstrate practical and sustainable solutions for waste management and pollution reduction, involving participants in activities that promote reuse, recycling and waste minimization.

Encourage Collaboration among Stakeholders:

Facilitate opportunities for collaboration and networking among local organizations, businesses and government agencies involved in marine conservation and pollution prevention.
