[February 13, 2023 - Puerto Rico] - The non-profit organization, Hispanic Access Foundation (HAF) in conjunction with American Rivers, began an initiative to dedicate love letters to the bodies of water. Some people, concerned about the environment, dedicated themselves to create and share with the public a video focused on the importance of water bodies in society and the need to preserve them.
“Our landscapes are deeply interconnected to our histories, which provide a place where our friends and family can socialize and relax. By including the voices of local residents in the protection and regeneration of public spaces, we can together organize a united community that supports and promotes a positive impact on the environment,” HAF said on its website, emphasizing this collaboration.
Among the people who participated in this initiative, which began in the fall of 2022, were: Fabiola Torres, who presented her message in the El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico, David Riera, who dedicated his letter to the Biscayne Bay in Florida, Pastor Josue Villareal, who wrote to the James River in Virginia, Ruby Gonzales, who expressed herself towards the Kern River, Pastor Armando Vera together with Pastor David Delgado, who starred in the letter of the Rio Grande (Rio Bravo) of Texas, and Jorge Ayon with Vanessa Muñoz, wrote their letter together to the Tijuana River, located on the border of Mexico and the United States by the states of Baja California and California, respectively.
“It's very important to advocate for our waters because if you're not vocal about an issue, maybe no one else is and one voice can make a difference, but the more voices that come together, the more voices the more difference it makes,” stated the founder of Conservation Opportunity, Fabiola Torres in her Love Letter to El Yunque National Forest.
With these videos, HAF's “Letters of Love” initiative and American Rivers distributes a message that calls attention to the neglect and mismanagement of these ecosystems on which many people depend.
It also promotes ecological research of water bodies in society by having each volunteer create a video of his or her favorite river. HAF and American Rivers encourage the community to get motivated and make their own message dedicated to any body of water.
